"Extreme Vetting" was previously used under the president's last term, and is expected to take effect almost immediately.

In a move that is likely to have near-immediate consequences, an Executive Order signed by Donald Trump has demanded "extreme vetting" of U.S. visa applicants of all types. This would include all of the common work visas, such as H-1B, L-1A, L-1B, O-1, and common student visa categories like J-1 and F-1. It would also include anyone obtaining an Immigrant Visa abroad as the spouse of a U.S. citizen, to come to the U.S. and get a green card.
"Extreme vetting" will apply across the board, and also be applied to people landing at U.S. immigration, in airports, such as UK citizens traveling on ESTA.
Within less than a month, the Executive Order has stated, revisions to the rules currently in place governing the issuance of visa applications should be recommended, so we are going to see official, specific rule changes very shortly.
Extreme vetting is likely to mean more security checks and most probably - delays in the issuance of visas. This is unfortunate as delays are already quite common.
